A scarce unclipped jacket, still showing "8s 6d net" has small nicks and some soiling; book shows spotting to cloth spine, light offsetting to endpapers, light splay typical of the thin boards. Better than VG book in better than VG unclipped jacket. A Newbery Honor Book in 1947; the tale of Johnny Littlehorn, an American boy who is sent to France immediately after World War II to stay with his eccentric, aviation-minded uncle and recuperate from an injury. He eludes Nazi spies, learns to communicate with the locals, and conqers homesickness.
